We had a welcome assembly for our guests where our pupils sang Scottish songs and there was a demonstration of Scottish dancing from two Primary 7 girls. Classes also demonstrated the songs and dances they learned with our visitors, and they all did very well given they had only had a little practice.  Thanks go to our guests who worked extremely well with our pupils who have all enjoyed and benefitted from the experience.

Everywhere We Go

We had a welcome assembly for our guests where our pupils sang Scottish songs and there was a demonstration of Scottish dancing from two Primary 7 girls. Classes also demonstrated the songs and dances they learned with our visitors, and they all did very well given they had only had a little practice.  Thanks go to our guests who worked extremely well with our pupils who have all enjoyed and benefitted from the experience.

At the end of the visit our group visited the nearby town of Jedburgh.  When we were there we visited the old jail on top of the hill, which is preserved as a visitor attraction with information on how life was in the 1800s.  No one was locked up and everyone enjoyed there visit.

While our visitors were in school, some taught songs and dances to our pupils.  Each class would then perform these songs and dances at our welcome assembly.  Here you can see some slides of our visitors in action.

The Italian teachers didn’t do a song on this visit, but instead had maps of Italy and famous monuments sheets.  Pupils had to identify where the monuments can be found in Italy.  They cut the monument out and stuck it on the map in the area it can be seen.  Everyone enjoyed the activity and here is a slideshow of their visit.

During a visit to Edinburgh our visitors went to Edinburgh College Restaurant, a restaurant open to the public where the meals are cooked by students. The waiters are also students, and this work is part of their course at Edinburgh College. Our visitors enjoyed a lovely four course meal plus coffee and petits fours. Everyone enjoyed their meal so well done Edinburgh College students.

After the meal we went to see the Forth Bridges by night.  There is a rail bridge dating back to 1890, and the road bridge is much more recent opened in 1964.

During the week of the Comenius visit we had two teacher birthdays to celebrate at our welcome assembly, Peta Harris and  Iuliana Muntean from Romania. Everyone enjoyed singing for them at the assembly.

The teachers from our Comenius project walked down the Royal Mile from the castle, calling in at St Giles Cathedral on the way down to the Scottish Parliament.

During our visit to the Parliament, the group were welcomed to Scotland by Paul Wheelhouse Minister for the Environment and Climate Change. We also had a tour of the Parliament and visited the chamber while parliament was discussing business.

Our Comenius partners enjoyed a visit to Edinburgh to visit the castle, St Giles Cathedral and the Parliament among other things. Here are a few things they did on their visit.
